FC Chippenham v Blunsdon 4

We started a lot brighter than we did a week ago at Ashton Keynes and the first fifteen minutes was a complete contrast to how we started and played last week.

From the start we were passing the ball well and testing out the Blunsdon defence down both wings and the crisp passing paid off in the 16th minute when we took the lead.  Ash Alchin was played in by a defence splitting pass from Kyle Pogue-Elms to slot home.

However, the lead was to last just 41 seconds as Blunsdon found themselves level with a speculative shot which found its way into the goal.  The scoring was not complete there and within a minute we were back in front this time Ash meeting a great cross from the left from Ciaran Webster.

We seemed to settle a little after this flurry of goals and we consolidated our lead with two further quick goals, the first from Ciaran and then Ben Millet got his first of the game.  With a three goal cushion we looked comfortable, but as we have found many times before you need to keep going as Blunsdon scored two quick goals of their own towards the end of the half to give us a slender 4 – 3 lead at the break.

The second half played out in a similar way to the first, without all the goals.  Both teams played some good football and tested each other out.  The FC defence played well and we worked hard all over the field.

We re-gained a two goal cushion when Kyle Pogue-Elms fired home from the edge of the area to beat the Blunsdon keeper.  Blunsdon continued to press and again they got a goal back as the second half continued but the game was finally secured when Ciaran ended a great run down the left wing to cross for Ben to tap the ball home for his second of the game.

That was enough to give us the win, and we certainly had a fight to take the points today against a good side in Blunsdon.  Both teams put on a great display of football and it was a great game to watch.
