As part of Drive Southwest’s sponsorship of FC Chippenham youth, We’ll bring you the match report after every game……

FC Chippenham (HOME)  5 v Stratton Juniors 1

A performance this week that was in total contrast to the performance in the County Cup just seven days ago.

Having suffered a heavy defeat the previous week, we got the perfect start to this game and within the first 40 seconds we were in front.  Some good work down the right saw the ball crossed into the area and Ash Alchin was in the perfect position to put the ball in the back of the net.

We played some good football in the opening period, we kept the ball well and attacked down both wings and in the fourth minute the lead was doubled, as Josh Drury finished at the far post.

Having got two early goals, Stratton came back into the game and although we played some good football, the visitors had their share of possession and created some good chances, with the post coming to our aid with Dan well beaten midway through the half.

In the 33rd minute we had a three goal lead when Ben Millett was in the right place at the right time to score his first of the game.

The second period saw us again play some good football, we were industrious in midfield and defence when we did not have the ball and worked the ball out to the wings when possible without really testing the Stratton keeper.

The breakthrough came in the 58th minute when we were awarded a free kick out on the left.  Caine floated the ball into are and Ben rose above the defence to head the ball home.

Ben completed his hat-trick and scored our fifth goal in the 32nd minute, but the scoring was not complete and the charmed life our goal had led ran out in the final minute, having hit the woodwork twice, Stratton got a conciliation goal.

This was a good game of football where both teams played their part.  It was good to see the boys bounce back following last week’s defeat.  We played our usual brand of football and pressed the ball when not in possession.
