Trowbridge Town Youth 7 v FC Chippenham 1

Our run in the Under 15 County Cup is over after we were comprehensively beaten in the 1st Round against a strong and well organised Trowbridge Town side.

We were in the game for the first 15 minutes when we appeared to be getting some success down the flanks, but could not turn that success into goals.  Trowbridge took the lead in the 15th minute and from then on did not look back.  They increased their lead three minutes later.

It was a mix of us giving Trowbridge too much time on the ball and too much respect.  We failed to close them down and allowed them to dominate with the ball.  When we did get possession we gave the ball away to cheaply and appeared at times to string more than a couple of passes together.

We continued to battle with little success for the remainder of the first period and four goals in the last ten minutes of the half effectively killed the game as a contest.
What half time did give us was a chance to regroup as a team and try and identify the areas where we were failing.  To be fair to the boys we did put in a better performance in the second period.

Where we had given Trowbridge too much time in the first half we put pressure on the ball and we were more committed in the tackle.  We continued to enjoy some success down the wings but still could not find the break through.

We found ourselves further behind in the 27th minute when Trowbridge scored from a free kick just outside the penalty area.  We finally got on the score sheet with the last goal of the game, which brought a great cheer from our supporters.  Our goal came from some good work down the right wing an exchange of passes between Kyle and Alex set the latter off down the right and he crossed for Ash to tap in at the far post.  We came close to getting a second but it was not to be.

Trowbridge finished with a convincing win.  They are a good side and were by far the better side on the day.  Trowbridge took their chances and whilst a couple of their goals may have been fortuitous, we weren’t close to winning this game after the convincing lead they built up.

If the boys can take anything from this game it must be that we must be more committed in the tackle and we cannot allow teams time and space on the ball and we must close them down and pressure the ball.

We wish Trowbridge well as they progress in the competition and turn our attentions to the second round of the league cup next weekend.
